To review the progress of the ASEAN-ROK Cooperative Programme on Industrial Use of Marine Biological Resources, ASEAN and ROK organised the 1st Project Management Committee (PMC) Meeting in Seoul on 26-30 November 2007. Hosted by the Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute (KORDI), the Meeting was attended by the ASEAN and ROK Country Coordinators, Project Leader, consultants and the ASEAN Secretariat.

During the review, participating countries presented the progress of the outcomes of the in-country survey aiming to generate database pertaining to (i) personnel and institutions engaged in marine biotechnology from public and private sector. Some countries reported that the in-country surveys have almost been completed, while some are still analysing the results of surveys. It is expected that country submissions will be completed by mid of January 2008 to enable the consultants to undertake reviews and submitted their comments and recommendations by early February 2008. By the end of March 2008, a set of database will be uploaded in the project Website and will be accessible to public.

During the Meeting, KORDI staff also shared with the participants some of the on-going activities currently being undertaken by KORDI. Among the activities being featured include those undertaken by the Korea-South Pacific Ocean Research Center (KCORC) located in Micronesia.

The 2nd and Final Meeting will be held in the last week of March 2008 in Cebu, the Philippines.(DT)
