As a follow up to Thailand’s initiative put forward at the 4th Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on S&T (AMMST) held in Kuantan, Malaysia, on 28 August 2006, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) of Thailand is going to host and organize the Inaugural Meeting of the Network of ASEAN S&T Centers which will be held on 25-26 January 2007 in Bangkok. This initiative is very much in support of one of the thrusts stipulated in the ASEAN Plan of Action on S&T (APAST) 2007-2011 on Networking of S&T Centers of Excellence and programmes.

The Meeting aims to bring together S&T officials and administrators/managers of research and technology organizations/centers from all ASEAN Member Countries to share their experiences on the implementation of national and international S&T policies, managing the research activities and the coordination between academia, universities and R&D centers. The Meeting also provides a platform for joint R&D activities and for exchange of scientists and sharing S&T research facilities. At the end of the Meeting, a plan of action to promote the networking among S&T centers of excellence will be proposed.

It is expected that the Meeting will also come up with a set of recommendations on a plan of action to be put forward to the ASEAN Committee on Science and Technology (COST) and also the AMMST.
