Knowledge is the most important resource of any organization strategically. It is difficult to imitate and is therefore a major contributing factor of persistent competitive advantage and superior corporate performance. Every business has an access to a large pool of knowledge. It can be their realization of customers’ needs and wants or it can also be business environment or the skills, abilities and experience of the organizational staff. Using knowledge in your business does not mean to develop new products and planning new ways of selling them. It is simple and straight forward. Useful and important information is already available in your organization in the form of your skilled workforce and their experience, the designs and processes of the goods/services, the documentation and your future plans. The challenge is to make use of this knowledge in an effective and productive manner. Knowledge management describes that how a business collects, shares and utilizes that knowledge in order to attain the organizations’ set goals. An operative knowledge management strategy makes it possible for the knowledge to be shared among individuals, teams and organizations. Using your organizational knowledge in a right way can help your organization increase its productivity, reduce cost, decrease business risks and explore new opportunities. This is called as knowledge advantage. The sources of knowledge include customers, suppliers and employee relationship, market know how, the knowledge of the business environment and industry, personal associations and business conferences, trade exhibitions and market research. Knowledge management provides a defined outline to assess business processes that what actually we want to achieve, how can we gain competitive advantage, how can we better deliver the results and how can we cope up with the changing business environment. The ability to define and explore future business opportunities clearly depend upon the availability of current information in the organization. Knowledge management is now applied across the world including all industries; public sectors, private sectors and charitable institutions as well. Most significantly it is now recognized to be the main driver of the new ideas which leads to the advance process, to innovative products/services and success solutions. The purpose of knowledge management is not just to become extra knowledgeable, but to be talented enough to create, convey and apply that knowledge with the intention of achieving organizational aims. Effective knowledge management will impressively contribute to improved excellence which includes; reducing cost, provide potential to growth, increase profitability, and improve products and services. Today, a number of people see knowledge management as a choice. At present, those who work with knowledge are considered as extraordinary. Those who fail to comprehend knowledge management will think it as an extra effort to the main work, or consider it as a temporary trend. Effective and extraordinary knowledge management, at all levels including the individual, team and the organization will of course become mainstream and conventional, and will become as the single method to successfully develop and progress for the time yet to come. The strategies and methods of knowledge management will certainly change, but the fundamental principal will definitely remain unchanged. |
